Another Expensive Shambles
Unfortunately, back in the real world, Brown has committed a further giant pile of our cash to buy success in an election that will not now take place.
Yesterday we blogged the Crossrail decision and reckoned that will cost us £25-£30bn. And today we hear that Tuesday's accelerated Comprehensive Spending Review will pump even more cash than expected into our grotesquely underperforming health and education systems- continuing real growth of 3.5%pa for both. In cash terms that's equivalent to an additional £15bn pa by the end of the three year review period (2010-11).
We'll be doing a more detailed blog on the CSR, but let's just note that Brown's humiliation- highly enjoyable though it is- has cost us plenty.
