We're forever blogging government IT fiascos, and the Lib Dems have just foied some interesting summary facts.
According to figures supplied by departments, their average IT overspend over the last five years was 12.3%. The worst performing department was Defra (again!), with an average of 46.3%, closely followed by the Department of Transport on 27.9%.
Now of course, we know these numbers will be a gross understimate- eg despite running the doomed Supercomputer, the Department of Health reckons it only overspent by 14.3%. And even if a project hits its budget, it doesn't mean it actually works.
But at least nobody's seriously trying to tell us they're capable of actually staying within budget.
