Does This Sound Like A Good Idea?
I realise this would never happen in Real Life, but say you'd somehow committed to staging the 2012 Olympics. And say the budget was already running totally out of control. Would you go out and hire some experimental "conceptual architect" to design the main stadium?
No. I sort of guessed not.
So wtf are Tess and her chums about to do just that?
"A radical architect whose designs have only been realised five times in his 46-year career has been announced as the head of design for London’s Olympic stadium.
Peter Cook — who is best known for his conceptual designs in the 1960s, including a portable metropolis suspended from an airship — is leading the stadium project for HOK Sport, the only architects being considered for the job. Professor Cook told Building Design magazine that he will deliver a “really chirpy” building unlike any existing stadium."
Prof Cook is reponsible for something called the- now make sure your teeth are in properly before you say this - the Kunsthaus in Graz. It's that upturned udder thing in the pic.
