Olympics Diversity Costs
Yesterday we heard about the government's plan to force its suppliers to meet workforce diversity targets. Today we hear that the Olympics Delivery Authority will be doing the same thing:
"The ODA will monitor how many ethnic minority staff are employed by each firm working on London’s Olympic sites.
Companies that manage to employ a pre-arranged percentage of black and ethnic minority workers will be paid a “financial reward” for meeting those targets."
The ODA is aiming to ensure that the ethnic composition of the workforce reflects the composition of the local population. Which in Stratford means over 50% black and Asian: let's hope they include plenty of unemployed brickies and steel constructors.
We note that Multiplex hasn't had to meet these targets in building the new Wembley, yet the stadium will still be about 18 months late and 50% over budget. So our estimate of £20bn all-in cost for 2012 may need to be revisited.
